THABO Shole-Mashao is lucky to be alive after surviving an attack from tsotsis.
The broadcster was involved in an attempted hijacking on Tuesday, 21 February in Ruimsig, Joburg.
He told Daily Sun that the hijackers had been following him for some time.
"This happened at a garage. I was going there to pour petrol in the evening. I was also going home, because I live close to the garage,” he said.
“The car with the hijackers had been trailing me for some time. I noticed that they were following me, but they kept a safe distance,” he said.
He said he was the target, but the hijackers were distracted and hijacked another car.

“When I got to the garage, they parked behind me. However, they had to move to a petrol port that’s a bit further from me after another car came. I was waiting for the petrol attendant to come fetch an EFT machine so I can pay. The hijackers also poured petrol, paid and after that, the three men walked out of the car armed and wearing masks,” he said.
They took out the guns and came towards my direction. However, there was a petrol attendant who panicked and ran. Then they changed their direction to the other car that was there. There were two people in that car, and they stole it. They drove away with their car and the victim’s car,” said Thabo.
Thabo said he survived because the robbers changed the direction and went to the other car.

“That’s how I survived. Fortunately, no one was injured,” he said.
Thabo believes that had the cops come sooner, the stolen car could’ve been found.
“Firstly, the petrol attendance pressed a panic button, and a security company came through to attend to the matter. However, it took cops a while to get there. It was over 30 to 40 minutes,” he said.
“I went home and went back to the garage, and they still hadn’t gotten there. I had to call a police captain I know because we had been waiting for a while. When I spoke to the victims, they said the guys said if the cops had come earlier, they would’ve found the car because it didn’t have enough petrol to get far,” he said.
