RISING star Botlhale Mahlangu has scored himself the lead role in the much-anticipated feature film Surviving Gaza.
Botlhale, who plays Phuzi in the show, told SunBuzz he was over the moon when he got the call back from the directors.
“It was a dream come true. I never thought I’d land my first big role this soon as I’ve heard stories of how big actors struggled to get to where they are today and it being a lead role was out of this world, and it felt amazing.”
Surviving Gaza is about a young boy who goes after his dream of being a musician . He uses his locksmith skills to break into a studio to steal a recording device and the robbery ends in a murder.

Acting for the Tshwane-born youngster comes naturally and he shared that stepping into Phuzi’s shoes was neither easy nor hard. “I think it’s because I relate so much to the character and we have similar dreams and ambitions. It was like playing myself, although other elements of him were different.”
The 20-year-old, who’s set to study film and television, said he always knew acting was his calling and he was inspired by the likes of Uzalo actor Thobani Nzuza. Botlhale said he’d also like to go into other aspects of entertainment.
“If the universe does allow me to explore other disciplines, I would go for it because I am not one to put my eggs in one basket.”
