CROWN Gospel Awards founder Zanele Mbokazi was surprised to receive an award at the Basadi in Music Awards on Saturday, 15 October.
The awards ceremony saw women in the music industry coming together at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng, to celebrate each other.
Zanele was honoured with the Trailblazer Award for her work in the industry.
Speaking to Daily Sun, she said she wasn’t expecting the award, but she was honoured.

“This was amazing, but the truth is we don’t expect to be celebrated.
“It’s our job to celebrate others.
“I was touched and I’m just glad I didn’t cry because I had no words,” she said.
Awards founder Hloni Modise-Matau said Zanele had supported her from the beginning.
Zanele said when Hloni told her about her idea to start the awards, she knew she had to help her.
“This may be a competition, but we must support each other.
“We’re encouraging women to hold each others’ hands,” she said.
Ikwekwezi FM presenter and singer Bathabile Skhosana, who won the Gospel Artist of the Year award, said she was very excited.
“I’ve won awards before, but this one has a special place in my heart.

“I was nominated alongside great artists and God chose me.
“I feel like it was a night for the underdogs.
“People who were expected to win did not win,” she said.
Other winners included Lamiez Holworthy, who walked away with two awards, Lerato Kganyago, Gigi Lamayne, Makhadzi, Skye Wanda, Khanyisa Jaceni, as well as Holly Rey.
Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Abigail Kubeka were awarded the Sampra Lifetime Award.
