KWAITO star Billy The Queen has hailed fellow kwaito star Professor as her hero.

Billy said if it wasn’t for Professor and her other friends, she wouldn’t be nominated in the 7th annual Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards.

The nominees were announced at the Soweto Theatre on Youth Day.

Billy was nominated in the Best Kwaito Single category for her song Stha featuring Professor and Emza.

She said Professor held her hand and taught her the ins and out of music.

“I’ve been trying to make it in music for a very long time. But after I met Professor, I started seeing the light,” said Billy, whose real name is Zanele Joja.

The passionate artist, who hails from Eastern Cape but is currently based in Durban, said the nomination came as a surprise.

“Professor encouraged me to submit the song for the awards. I was hesitant, but he pushed me. He told to grab every opportunity that I come across.

“We need more people like him. He held my hand, taught me about the industry and encouraged me to try harder. The nomination has boosted my confidence,” said Billy.

She said that winning the award would be a bonus.
