LIFE after Big Brother Mzansi (BBM) has been great for Luthando “BU” Mthembu.
The musician and actor was part of the third season of the reality TV game show, which aired earlier this year, and he’s already doing big things in the entertainment industry.
He just bagged his first major acting gig on Mzansi Magic’s series, Ayeye: Stripped and his music is doing well.
The 31-year-old spoke to SunBuzz about life after the show.
“It’s been for the most part overwhelmingly underwhelming, but I mean it in a poetic way, not in a bad way. I went in there with nothing in my mind, no strategy and I had the whole experience. I left the house and got all this attention, and it’s been overwhelming,” he said.
“The underwhelming part is that people compare our Big Brother to other ones like the Nigerian franchise. And I look at everyone who’s been part of the shows and how big they are after leaving the show and I realise that we still have a long way to go,” he said.

Speaking about his career thriving, BU said it’s because of the show. He stars on Ayeye: Stripped as Mbuso and his song, The Packager featuring Sizwe Alakine, is also used on the show.
“One of the pros of Big Brother is that once you leave the house, people want to know more about you and they want to be around you.
“People want to know what you want to do and even offer to help,” he said.
He said he cannot wait to experience more in the entertainment industry.

“I am excited for more acting and music opportunities. I’m still going out there, rubbing shoulders because I believe umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu.
“ Sometimes people do help you, it’s not just about talent,” he said.
Catch BU on Ayeye: Stripped every Friday on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) at 8pm.
