POPULAR amapiano producer Banele Sotomela, who is popularly known as Benzo, recently dropped his much-anticipated song Imali.
It’s inspired by the “soft life” that many South Africans aspire to lead.
The 29-year-old, originally from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, said he was inspired to create music when he was still a promoter.
“I was a promoter and doing events when I started to DJ. I realised how new music makes people happy and I was inspired to make my own music,” he said.

“It’s amazing how music can change a person’s mood from sad to happy and I wanted to be the reason people feel happy.”
Benzo said his supporters are a driving force for his work ethic.
“What drives me is the people who always tell me that this kind of music heals them and that inspires me to make more inspiring music.”
Speaking about Imali, he said: “My team and I are very proud and honoured to have finally released the song to our listeners and the people out there.
“We hope that this song will bring hope, courage and evoke the fire and motivation to succeed and prosper in life.”
“Imali aims to stroke the desire for what is perceived as leading the ‘good life’, the ‘soft life’ or ‘getting the bag’,” said Banele.
