GQOM star Babes Wodumo has angered an event organiser.

This after she was booked to perform at Estradini Lifestyle in Estcourt, KZN, on Saturday, 28 January, but she never pitched.

She was booked to perform alongside hip-hop artist Beast.

Event organiser Vukani Mbatha said they invite big artists every month to inspire the youth.

But they were disappointed when Babes failed to pitch.

He said they realised on the day of the event that Babes, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, was not coming.

“Everything was fine before the event and they kept promising they were coming.

“But late on Saturday, Babes, her manager Nondumiso Simelane, as well as their road manager, were no longer taking our calls.

“We eventually gave up and realised she wasn’t coming,” said Vukani.

According to an invoice, which Daily Sun has seen, Babes charged R18 000 and was paid in full.

Daily Sun has also seen the proof of payment.

Vukani said he expected an explanation from Babes or her manager, but he never got one.

“She was the main act for the night and patrons looked forward to her performance, but she disappointed them.

“I am angry because she made me lie to the people.

“I called Nondumiso a few days later and she told me stories.

“She said Babes was mourning her uncle who had passed away, therefore she couldn’t attend our event.

“She then promised to pay me on Monday, but the money didn’t come through.

“I called Nondumiso again and this time around she swore at me,” he said.

He said he has learned his lesson and will never book Babes again.

Daily Sun reached out to Babes and Nondumiso, but they did not answer their phones.

Text messages were sent but they did not respond.
