KWAITO legend Bonginkosi “Zola 7” Dlamini is set to be honoured at the seventh annual Mzansi Kwaito House Music Awards (MKHMA).
This honour is for his continued contributions in the creative industry and to kwaito music.
In celebration of seven years of existence of the awards, this year’s theme is “Hola 7, Ziwu 7”.
This news was announced on Thursday, 16 June, at the nominees’ announcement ceremony, held at the Soweto Theatre.
The main event will take place on 26 November and the event is moving to a new and exciting venue which will be announced soon.
The ceremony saw many emerging and well-known artists coming in numbers to see if they were nominated.

Perfecta Malinga, the CEO of MKHMA, said this year they received the highest number of submissions from artists.
“This year’s nominee announcement ceremony was well received by the music industry. This event came at the right time when everybody, especially in the music industry, needed something to lift their spirits after the lockdown and the losses we suffered as the creative arts industry. This year we received a record-breaking number of submissions, affirming the artists’ appreciation of the awards,” she said.
She said that this year’s event will also be a sad reminder because “it’s going to be the first time we celebrate without our managing director, Thulani Malinga, who sadly passed on in 2021”.
“But in the same breath I would like to thank the entire team, and the judges who did a good job in choosing the best even though they had a difficult time choosing the nominees. This is not an easy task because the submissions comprised of the best in the industry,” she said.
