MUSICIAN Tebogo “Aus Tebza” Sedumedi has expressed gratitude to the Basadi in Music Awards for giving her the opportunity to lead an all-female band.
She was the musical director at the awards, held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng, on Saturday, 15 October.
The band curated music and played throughout the show for artists such as Fifi Cooper, Anele Zondo, Rethabile Khumalo, Mmatema Moremi, and Brenda Mtambo.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Aus Tebza said it was a big moment for her.
“The whole experience was historic. To be the music director for an all-female ensemble, for an event that was for women, is groundbreaking. It was a paradigm shift. It was saying as women, our hard work is starting to be seen and taken seriously,” she said.
She said that Basadi in Music showed that women did not just lead in corporate spaces, but also in the arts.
Aus Tebza shared that they only had five days to prepare for the show.

“Those five days were life-changing and taught me so much. I didn’t know I had the strength to curate in such a short space of time. It took me out of my box and I had to make it work. This showed me that if you apply your mind, ideas and vision, how you see a show or women being represented is important. When working on the awards, we made sure to narrate how powerful the women who were performing were,” she said, adding that she wanted to do more projects like these ones.
“Whatever is bigger than the Basadi in Music Awards, we are ready. In fact, we can even represent South Africa.”
