HAKSUL Muziq is tired of South Africans asking who he is.
This after he was presented with the Sampra (South African Music Performance Rights Association) Artist of the Year award on Sunday, 28 August during the South African Music Awards (Samas).
Social media users have been asking who he is and how he won such a big award. The category required for the public to vote for the winner.
But Haksul said the backlash is from people who don’t know how hard he worked to win.
Speaking to Daily Sun, the musician, whose real name is Tokoloho Mavuso (31), said he campaigned and asked for votes everywhere he went.

“We have a lot of events in Katlehong and I made sure to go to most of the events and ask for votes. I even campaigned at events held by political parties. I made pamphlets and handed them out, encouraging people to vote for someone that’s local trying to make it big.”
He said he also campaigned on social media, local newspapers, TV and radio stations.
“I’m also an Uber driver and I asked every client that got into my car to vote for me and play my music,” he said.
Samas’ spokesman Lesley Mofokeng said the fans decide everything from the nominations to the win. “To be nominated, the person must have released music within the year and must agree to abide by the rules of the Samas. Haksul qualified for that,” he said.
He said South Africans shouldn’t be hard on Haksul. “The winner managed to run a successful campaign. He took this opportunity seriously and pushed himself.”
