RISING actress Imani Pullum feels connected to her character on espionage drama series, Classified on Mzansi's Netflix.

The 20-year-old actress from Los Angeles in the USA will star as Ella in the show by comedian and director, Kagiso Lediga.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Imani delved into her experience working on the show alongside fellow actors Paballo Koza, Luyanda Zwane, Richard Lukunku, Sule Rimi, and Christine Horn.

“I was sent the audition by my team, and they sent it when I was in New York for another show. When I saw the story and the character, I connected with it immediately. I told my team that I wanted to be serious and try as I could to book it.

“I did a director call back with Kagiso. He gave me some key points and then I had a meeting with the producers and that was the last audition. I wanted the role so much that I couldn’t wait to hear from the producers. I heard a couple of days later and I got the role. I felt like I understood some of the things she went through, and I felt like I understood her. I can also connect with her,” she said.

Classified follows the 15-year-old Ella as she navigates through life in Jozi.

“The series is about Ella from Oakland, USA. She gets sent to South Africa because she starts trouble in Oakland. When she gets here, she lives with her dad, brother, her stepmum is part of the CIA. We get to see her journey in Jozi.

“The show is pretty hectic. I’d say people should expect the unexpected. Every character develops through the series, so people will have to watch the series,” Imani said.

She said she enjoyed filming in Joburg.

“I love South Africa. The people are nice and kind. The weather is nice, plus I got to skip winter which was great. I left before winter hit in the USA. I had two summers. We started filming in November 2022. I was there for about three months,” the actress said."
