THE second annual King Cetshwayo July horseracing event will be bigger in 2023.
This year's event is themed Bringing the African Dream to Life and will be a three-day event from Friday, 21 July to Sunday, 23 July featuring the biggest line-up of Mzansi celebs.
It will start with Mr and Miss King Cetshwayo at Bhekuzulu Hall in Empangeni, KZN on Friday 21, July, which will feature the likes of Big Zulu, Somizi Mhlongo and Lwah Ndlunkulu.
The main event will be held in Empangeni on Saturday, 22 July followed by an after party at Umhlathuze Sports Complex with top artists. The three days will end with car spinning at the sports complex.
King Cetshwayo Mayor Thami Ntuli, said the event aims to celebrate the legacy of King Cetshwayo kaMpande as the district municipality is named after him, and to promote and preserve the tradition of the Zulu nation through indigenous horseracing.
“The drawcard event is the King Cetshwayo July horseracing event on Saturday, 22 July and R200 000 cash prize for the winning horse,” he said.

He said there will also be a street carnival in Richards Bay on Friday, 21 July.
The mayor said that the horserace will have a far-reaching impact on the local area spanning to sport, entertainment, fashion, small businesses, accommodation and retail sectors in the district.
“The public is invited to join us on all three days in large numbers. All events are completely free of charge and free entry tickets will be available at leading outlets in all five local municipalities," he said.
