Marc Rantseli has died.

MUSICIAN Alex Rantseli took to social media on Thursday morning, 9 November, to announce the death of his brother, Marc (56).

Alex and Marc were part of the group, MarcAlex. They were known for their hit Quick Quick, which went to number one on the South African music charts in June 1989.

Alex wrote on Facebook: “I lost my brother last night, and I'm devastated to say the least. Even though it was expected but one can never be prepared. The brain aneurysm he suffered three years ago came back weeks ago and took him away from us.

"I loved my brother dearly even when he was difficult sometimes. I will miss his gentle spirit and the beautiful moments and music we shared as brothers - MarcAlex - who lifted our family name and community back in the 80s, 90s and beyond."

He continued: "I will forever cherish our time together navigating life growing up in Diepkloof, Soweto. I don't have the right words at this time, but I had to say something. We will miss Marc dearly and may his soul rest in peace.”

Speaking to SABC’s Morning Live on Thursday morning, Alex said when he went to see Marc on Wednesday night, 8 November he wasn’t himself.

“He was actually at peace last night. The signs were there that he is okay, but I felt like something was different until I got a call that said he had passed on,” he said.

Marc's death left a sad note in the hearts of music lovers throughout the world and many paid tribute to him on social media.

Author Lawrence Ndlovu wrote: “I am saddened to learn of Marc Rantseli’s passing on. I have such fond memories of being in MaRantseli’s home in Diepskloof. He and his brother Alex (Lexi) and their sister Eve (Vivi) were like our older siblings. My heart goes out to MaRantseli their mom and the children.”

Singer Timothy Moloi wrote: “Woke up this morning to the devastating news that Marc Rantseli passed away. Two of the nicest guys in the South African music industry. MarcAlex’s music was part of the soundtrack of our lives growing up. My sincerest condolences to his brother, family and friends."
