MEDIA personality Vele Manenje has parted ways with Phalaphala FM after just eight days of hosting the breakfast show between 6am and 9am.

A week ago, Vele took to Instagram to announce the news. But sources claimed that Phalaphala FM listeners were not happy with her and this forced management to terminate her contract.

Disgruntled listeners also expressed their unhappiness on social media.

Jingles wrote: “Why did you accept that job and why did you sign the contract and start working and after eight days you realise that ‘no man, I am currently busy and occupied’? Stop lying. They terminated your contract. You are a horrible radio presenter. Start on community radio, you’ll get there.”

Pandelani commented: “Good ridance.”

But Vele dismissed the claims and said she had too much on her plate.

Part of her statement read: “It is with great regret that I have to deliver the news that @phalaphalafm_officialpage and myself have parted ways. Reason being that currently, there is a lot on my plate.

For those of you who do not know,I am a new mum and having to navigate between three TV programmes and a radio slot was becoming strenuous on me. With that being said, I have to bow out of the breakfast show and focus more on my recurring commitments. @phalaphalafm_officialpage still remains my home and the door is wide open for any further collaborations between the two brands. Thank you for opening your hearts and homes to me every morning.”

Speaking to Daily Sun, Vele said she didn’t know where the claims came from. as they were never discussed with her.

“I left because I couldn’t cope with my workload. When I took the job, I thought everything would be smooth but I was wrong. It was challenging, especially with a newborn.

“I had to leave my baby at 4am every day. I discussed this with the radio management and I left on a good note. The door is still open for me. I’m not completely gone, I’ll still be around,” she said.

SABC spokeswoman, Gugu Ntuli, said: “The SABC can confirm that Ms Vele Manenje has decided to part ways with Phalaphala FM, citing over commitment of personal and professional work.

“The station wishes Ms Manenje well in her future endeavors and appreciates the contribution she made in the short space of time on the show.”
