ACTRESS Vatiswa Ndara has been on some of the country's biggest shows such as Generations, Muvhango, Home Affairs, and Igazi, but she doesn't want to set foot on a set.

This is after she claimed that actors and actresses in South Africa were exploited.

In 2019, she wrote a letter to the former sport, arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa, asking him to do something about the alleged abuse and unfair treatment by production houses.

When asked if she would return to acting, she said: "No."

She said this at the launch of her book titled Unfiltered: My Unglamorous Odyssey in the World of South African Entertainment on Tuesday, 6 June.

"It's not easy. My mind is always in survival mode. How do I get through the next day? Have the conditions improved? What would I be going back to? So, no, it's not going to happen. Plus, things are getting worse," she said.

The actress also opened up about the backlash she received after sending out that letter in 2019.

She said there were people who insulted her because they didn't know her, and then some insulted her because they made certain decisions about her, and the person she is without even knowing her.

"I couldn't even get into those conversations because I had so much going on in my life.

"I couldn't try and say, 'please get to know my story'. People started to make the letter about Ferguson Films, and it wasn't about that. It was about things in the film industry. I mentioned that production house because that's what drove me to talk about it. People thought it was about me attacking a black company," she said.

Vatiswa said the book tackles her upbringing, how she went into acting, and her experience in the industry.

"I hope one day, actors can read the book when they are free. In fact, I hope everyone who consumes content from practitioners of the entertainment industry and government can read the book," she said.
