TV viewers’ favourite Xhosa speaking actress, Lusanda Mbane has joined Mzansi’s leading Xhosa radio station, Umhlobo Wenene FM.
The actress, who grew to be loved as Boniswa on e.tv’s Scandal! and is now on Imbewu: The Seed, will be taking over the Saturday breakfast show, Vuka Mzansi with Spitch Nzawumbi.
Speaking to Daily Sun about the new opportunity, Lusanda (42) said it was the universe that brought the job to her.
“The universe found me and returned me to radio. I didn’t do anything this time around, I didn’t speak to anyone or send anything to anyone. So I guess it’s luck. But I think the timing was right,” she said.
Lusanda was previously on Eastern Cape based station, Tru FM and left in 2018.
“When I left Tru FM, it was because I believed on that platform I learnt everything I could learn. I was ready to package everything I learnt and take it somewhere else. I’m one of those people who leave when there’s nothing else to do or learn, so I woke up one day and decided to leave. I left to focus on TV and my business,” she said.

She said her return to radio was inspired by her love for radio.
“The reason I went back is because I love radio. You see, TV gives me a chance to have an audience, but it’s scripted, and radio gives me the chance to have a listenership unscripted. It’s something I love, but I chased it so much between 2018 and 2019 and opportunities didn’t come. So I decided to let go and focus on other things,” she said.
The actress said people will enjoying having her and Spitch on the same show.
“Spitch and I are both recognisable brands in our own right. We’re people’s people and we bring a combination of two forces to be reckoned with. Two people who are well versed with what’s happening around them and are entertaining by nature. When we get together, we compliment each other because we know what we both bring. We can’t even compete,” said Lusanda.
“The show will be well researched shows that are current. And I’m sure that other presenters can listen to. I’m happy that we’ll bring fireworks to radio every weekend,” she said.
Lusanda said she’s busy with projects outside of radio.
“I’m currently busy with Imbewu, Umhlobo Wenene, and my clothing business, Zazi Zithande Zithembe. I was also recently in a meeting about something that I can’t quite speak about yet, but it involves TV presenting and producing,” she said.
Her show starts on 2 April.
