KAYA FM’s new breakfast show duo is a match made in heaven.

Comedian Skhumba Hlophe and legendary radio presenter Thomas Msengana have taken over the 6am to 9am slot at the Home of the Afropolitan.

Skhumba has moved from his Friday show Good Friday to the morning show, and Thomas recently left Metro FM.

They’ve joined forces for Thomas and Skhumba in the Morning.

Skhumba told SunBuzz the idea for the show came from the Kaya management because they wanted to bring two different worlds together.

“The management from Kaya saw it fit for me to move to the breakfast show. They said I make unconventional radio. I don’t even know what that means, but they said that,” said Skhumba.

“So they wanted to merge two radio people who’re unconventional and conventional, in this case that’s Thomas. I think this is a great combination.”

The duo started their first show on Monday, 3 May and they said so far, it’s been good.

“The first show was amazing and we loved it. We know there was too much pressure on us to deliver, but we came through. From what I noticed though, we’re still far from what we want to achieve. This is just the beginning,” said Skhumba.

Thomas said their show will be an experience to their listeners.

“I like the fact that with radio, it’s not about what content you’re bringing, it’s about how people feel when listening to you,” Thomas said.

“Do they want to be part of the conversations and be part of the experience?

“I have a feeling that Kaya is falling in love with being part of having an experience in the morning. We don’t want to do just a breakfast show, we’re doing a morning show and we want to make people feel good about being part of this family.”

Speaking about his move from Metro to Kaya, Thomas said: “I had a great time at Metro and I knew I’d always come back to Kaya. The timing was good because my contract was ending at Metro. Coming back home to work with Skhumba was an opportunity I couldn’t say no to.”

Skhumba urged people to listen to their show to be part of a great experience.
