TS GALAXY players handed the club chairman Tim Sukazi the best belated birthday gift in the form of three points when they thumped Chippa United 3-1 at Mbombela Stadium last night.
Sukazi turned 49 on Monday, and the players extended the celebrations by claiming maximum points in a relegation battle.
The Rockets came from behind to compound Chippa’s woes and dragged them deeper into the relegation zone.
Chippa drew the first blood in the sixth minute through Bienveu Eva Nga, who scored from a tap-in
However, their celebrations were cut short when Galaxy levelled matters 10 minutes later via Mthobisi Mngomezulu, who scored his fourth goal of the season.
Chippa had an injury blow on the half-hour mark after Jemondre Dickens landed awkwardly to dislocate his knee and was rushed to hospital.
The two sides went to the break tied on 1-1.
Galaxy stole the show towards the end of the match when they were awarded a penalty after Azola Matrose fouled Wayde Lekay in the box. Menzi Ndwandwe stood up and extended the lead from the spot-kick, making it 2-1.
Lekay sealed the win for Galaxy in stoppage time with a sensational strike from outside the box, which left Chippa goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali with no chance.
Galaxy moved from position 15 to 12 on the DStv Premiership standings with 12 points from 14 games.
Chippa’s inability to find the back of the net looks like will be the end of them this season.
The relegation-haunted side’s players will need to develop a killer instinct to fire the club away from the relegation zone.
The defeat worsened their woes as they have won only once in their last 10 matches.
This result saw them drop from position 13 to 14th in the log table, a point ahead of Baroka FC and Swallows FC, in positions 15 and 16 respectively, with nine points each.
