THE residents of Koster in the North West are living in fear.

Some residents said they didn’t feel free walking on the streets as they could be attacked at any time.

Resident Letlhogonolo Moalusi (46) said a man was attacked by a gang of nyaope addicts on Saturday, 7 August.

Letlhogonolo said the man ran into a friend’s house, saying a group of men wanted to attack him.

“When trying to protect the man, the group started throwing stones at them. Three of our cars were badly damaged and two friends were injured,” he said.

“Earlier that day, we kept hearing that nyaope addicts were attacking people by either robbing or beating them up. We need the police to intervene. Most of these cases disappear. These gangsters bribe police officers.”

Police spokesman Captain Sam Tselenyane said cases of malicious damage to property and assault were opened.

“The complainant alleged that he was at a friend’s house when the incident occurred.

“The complainant saw one of the suspects throwing stones at the vehicle.

“The complainant’s friend sustained minor injuries and the vehicle was damaged on the windscreen, windows as well as the driver’s door. The damage is estimated to be R5 400,” said Tselenyane.

He said that the police bust three suspects, who appeared in the Koster Magistrates Court last Tuesday.

They were due to appear again in the same court on 16 September.

They were released on R500 bail each.
