OVER the weekend, 25 gogos finally saw their dream trip to Cape Town come true!
The gogos, who came together years ago and decided they wanted to visit Mzansi’s historical sites, met at Park Station in Joburg to catch the train to Cape Town.
From Spruit View in Ekurhuleni, they are all members of the Pull Together Senior Citizens club and for years, they have been saving money so they could see Robben Island.
Their trip will also take them to sites such as parliament and the headquarters of the navy.
Club secretary Elizabeth Mathiane (75) told Daily Sun the group was not only about travelling but also supporting each other.
She said: “In 2008, we came together to find things to do with our time. We cannot just wait to die.
“We must live life to the full and do the things we didn’t get a chance to when we had busy schedules in the past.”
Most of the gogos said they had not been to Cape Town before and couldn’t wait to finally see the city.
Rose Buthelezi (61) couldn’t hold back her excitement.
“We thank the Almighty for sparing us so we could unite as elderly people. We are very happy this trip has become a reality,” she said.
“I cannot wait to see Table Mountain and Robben Island.”
