A GROUP of youngsters were enjoying the second leg of their matric farewell celebration when tragedy struck.
Six pupils from three high schools were boozing outside Jwarha’s Tavern in KwaNobuhle when they were caught in the cross fire of a gang-related shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning!
It is alleged a group of gangsters in a vehicle arrived and fired shots at another vehicle not far from the pupils.
Four of the pupils were seriously injured and rushed to hospital, while two people in the targeted vehicle were killed.
A witness who refused to be named said: “People were running all over and the pupils, who were dressed to kill, were hit by bullets.
“There were holes all over the car belonging to the deceased. The holes were in the bonnet, the front door and below the front mirrors. The seats were covered with blood and bodies were lying all over the place.”
Gogo Nomsisi Latile (58) whose granddaughter (14 ) a grade 8 pupil at Brandwag High, said: “I sent my granddaughter to buy me headache pills and bread at about 6pm on Saturday.
But she did not return. Today she is in theatre at hospital and was hit by the bullet outside Jwarha’s Tavern.
A cop close to the investigation said: “The two men who died are both from Port Elizabeth, in Missionville and New Brighton. One had 10 bullet wounds in his upper body while the other had eight.
Sergeant Majola Nkohli told Daily Sun: “Two men in their 20s were shot dead and died at the scene.”
