HE IS the one who was shot, and the bullet that entered through his shoulder is still stuck in his body, close to his spinal cord.

But while injured Mandla Masilela (41) from Yeoville, Joburg is sitting in a jail cell, the cop who allegedly shot him still walks free!

Some Yeoville residents claim the trigger-happy cop has made it his business to harass foreigners for money.

Mandla’s worried wife, Bongani Skhosana (41), said her husband did nothing wrong.

“How does justice work when the suspect walks free and the victim is thrown in a cell?”

She said she was at work on Thursday when she received a call to say her husband had been shot by the police.

“I rushed to the scene but he had already been taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, where he was receiving treatment under police guard. He was discharged on Friday and arrested the same day.”

A witness who was with Mandla on Thursday said they were on their way to the shops when cops stopped them for a search.

“Mandla refused to give the cop money and walked away. I heard two shots and Mandla fell. There was blood on the road. He never fought with the officer. I heard cops claiming that Mandla was trying to hijack the officer but that’s a lie,” he said. “The cop works in Hillbrow but comes to Yeoville to harass foreigners.”

Zwelibanzi Gumede from Yeoville said: “There have been complaints about this cop. He takes money from Zimbabweans.”

Hillbrow police spokesman Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said two attempted murder cases were registered at the station.

“A suspect was arrested and police are investigating the case against the cop.”
