ROSE Lukhele (24) is not afraid of experimenting and pushing boundaries.

Better known as Jozia, the singer and songwriter from Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, said her music is a combination of soul, pop and rock. Her lyrics are written in Pedi, Zulu, Xhosa, Venda and English.

Her debut album, Mamokebe, was released last month and her singles Dlozilami, Njalo and Julio are getting a lot of positive feedback from music fans.

The songs are about isolation and feeling as if you don’t belong.

Jozia said: “The songs are really personal.

“I went through a rough patch in 2014, when my aunt, her husband and then her child died.

Mamokebe is about the pain I’ve experienced.

“I sing to connect with those who have experienced the same things I have.”

Jozia said she is inspired by singers such as Zahara, Michael Jackson, Adele, Zahara, Bob Dylan and Billie Holiday.

She told SunBuzz she had been invited to Switzerland to promote her album.

“I am also establishing myself overseas and have already performed at a couple of shows in Europe.”

Her debut album is available for purchase on digital music outlets.
