South African legendary actor, John Kani, has joined the star-studded cast of “The Lion King”.
It was announced that John Kani will play “Rafiki.”
The film, which is due to be released on 19 July 2019, is set to blaze the screen.
It will be a musical drama with A-list stars gracing the screen of the movie.
Actors that include Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover, Beyonce, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejofor, Seth Rogen and John Oliver will be part of the cast.
The movie will be a remake of the classic 1994 animated movie of the same title.
Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa took to Twitter to congratulate the theatre and screen legend.
“We are delighted that legendary South African Actor bra John Kani, will play Rafiki in Disney's "The Lion King". We wish him all the best,” he tweeted.
John Kani is a legendary actor in Msanzi, and has also made his mark on the international scene with his role of King T’Chaka in Captain America: Civil War.
He will reprise the role in the upcoming Black Panther movie.
