YOUNG and promising radio presenter Poelano Setwaba has found a new home at Thobela FM.

This comes after working for four years at an English-medium radio station.

The 25-year-old presenter has admitted there were challenges switching from English to Pedi in the beginning.

However, she has settled in well with the help of listeners as well as her mother who is a Pedi curriculum adviser.

“My growth and progress show I am being supported very well both internally and by the public,” said Poelano, who has been with Thobela FM for four months.

Poelano is the co-presenter of breakfast show Ditlalemeso with Lenny T Legodi.

She said they aim to give listeners something new while making sure they do not sound like a talk show.

“We feed our listeners with local and international current affairs in a light and entertaining way.

“We balance it with upbeat music to get our listeners through all the morning blues,” said Poelano.

Born in Tzaneen, Limpopo, Poelano started her radio career at Energy FM where she was nicknamed Madam Speaker.

“We regarded our afternoon drive show as our mini parliament. My co-host was named El-Presidente. I will call him and listeners into order on a light note,” said Poelano. She said radio has taught her effective listening skills.

“I am able to put myself into the listeners’ shoes. Perhaps that is why I have a good relationship with them. They are my stars. I wouldn’t be the madam speaker I am today without their love and support,” she said.
