Helping your child with homework is one of the most important tasks a parent has to perform in terms of supporting their child’s education.

Kids get homework in-order to extend classroom learning and help them practice important study skills.

‘It is imperative that parents help their kids with homework and also make it a priority as this helps the child develop good study habits.

It is a known fact that in the busy times that we live in, getting home after a long day at work and helping your child with homework can be a very daunting task.

Here are a few tips that parents may find useful in terms of helping their children with homework:

Create a homework friendly environment. Avoid doing homework with your child in front of the television as this may disrupt concentration.

When helping your child with homework make sure you help them understand the question, help them interpret the questions and avoid giving them answers and doing all the work.

Make homework time a routine. Encourage your child to do homework at the same time everyday at the same place and be strict about not having cell phones and games on until their homework is done.

Help your kids make a plan when it comes to assignments that require a lot of preparation and putting together.  Encourage your child to break up the work into manageable chunks

Praise their work and efforts. Children feel motivated and eager to do well when motivated, so make sure you praise your child when they get their homework done on time and if they get good marks.

As parents it is important to know that not all children are the same. Some children do well when doing homework alone and some do well when working with other children. Encourage the environment that your child strives in.
