A JUDGE in Brazil recently ruled for Apple to compensate a customer $1 000 (about R15 500) for selling an iPhone without a charger.
According to appleinsider.com, the government in Brazil had previously fined Apple for not including a charger with the iPhone. It was not clear when this recent complaint was filed, but it was reported that an individual from Goiânia won the case against the world’s biggest tech company.
Local publication Tecmundo reported that Judge Vanderlei Caires Pinheiro ruled and convicted Apple of making an illegal sale.
The country’s Consumer Code (CDC) stated that it was not allowed to sell devices separately, such as smartphones and chargers.
It was reported that during the case, Apple argued that users were not required to buy its charger, citing that it was ceasing to include due to environmental concerns.
Apple further argued that it provided a USB-C cable so any USB-C charger could be used.
“Pinheiro, however, maintained that it was not possible to use the iPhone’s provided charging cable with other chargers, therefore, customers were required to buy Apple’s product,” the article read.
It was not clear which model of the iPhone caused the dispute, but it was believed to be a base-level iPhone 13 costing around R20 000.
