NTOMBI Ngcobo gave birth on Monday morning but the baby was immediately taken off to the ICU.
TV presenter, singer and actress, Ntombi told Daily Sun that although she was only able to spend two minutes with her baby, she was happy he was alive.
The baby, who was named after his father Sizwe, had to undergo a series of tests so doctors could work out how best to help him.
Last week, the People’s Paper reported that Ntombi had been told while she was pregnant that the baby was suffering from a rare heart condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
This means the left side of the baby’s heart has not developed properly and can’t supply enough blood to his body.
Ntombi said women in her situation were usually told to have an abortion and she was not offered any counselling.
“The doctors tell you to abort as if you are carrying a bag of potatoes but I decided to carry my baby for the full term,” she said.
Speaking after the birth of the baby this week, Ntombi said: “For the first time in months I slept like a baby but I am happy my son is here and kicking.”
Ntombi said she had been getting a lot of support from her mum Linah Khama, known as Ebony and her father, Ihashi Elimhlophe.
“My mum is a pastor and we have been praying a lot.
“Doctors have told me what they know but I am putting all my trust in God. I believe there will be a miracle,” she said.
