Watch: Locally produced natural hair products

The Sun team recently sat down and spoke to Founder and CEO of Native Child hair and bodycare brand, Sonto Pooe.

Native Child is a natural hair and bodycare brand that caters for women of colour.

Sonto,  grew up in KwaMashu, Durban. She describes her business as a lifetime journey as she has always had a passion for hair as her journey started at the age of eight by braiding and taking care of her own hair, and when she was a teenager she started braiding other people’s hair to make extra money. She then realised later on in life that she would love to have her own natural hair products to sell.

After getting married and moving to Johannesburg, Sonto studied Hairdressing, Cosmetic Science Diploma and expanded into bodycare.

After experiencing many challenges in her business, her advice to other female entrepreneurs is to do whatever it is you want to do fully invested and if you are passionate about what you’re doing you will not lose.

Native Child sells a variety of hair and bodycare products such as African Black soap, Black Castor oil, Sweet almond oil, coconut oil, Shea butter cream and many more affordable products.

Native Child hair and bodycare products can be used on the hair, body and face. Their products do not contain any harsh chemicals, sulphats, paraben or petroleum and are animal cruelty free.

You can buy Native Child hair and bodycare products at selected Jet stores, online or at their office in Allen’s Nek, Roodepoort, Johannesburg.
