Jaguar wants the definition of the word 'Car' to be redefined.
Currently, the online Oxford Dictionary defines a car as "A road vehicle, typically with four wheels, powered by an internal combustion engine and able to carry a small number of people."
By this definition, Jaguar's I-Pace I-PACE, the current reigning World Car of the Year and European Car of the Year is not a car. So the British luxury carmaker is calling for online Oxford Dictionaries to redefine what a car is.
They have submitted a formal to the Oxford English Dictionary and OxfordDictionaries.com to have the definitions updated to include additional powertrains, including electric vehicles.
David Browne, head of Jaguar Land Rover’s naming committee said it’s surprising to see that the definition of the car is outdated.
The company has also taken to social media to encourage people to contact them using #RedefineTheCar with how the word ‘car’ should be defined.
