FOR the love of their cars, car owners are making waves and ensuring exciting weekends in the south of Joburg.

SunWheels attended one of these informal rallies, as they are called, which included a lot of different cars and fan clubs, such as:

- 97 VW cars and their owners

- 25 Hondas from Via Soweto

- 15 Toyota Tazzes

- 10 local BMW crews.

The rally, which kicked off at Ironside before joining the Golden Highway, went all the way to Thabong Shopping complex, then proceeded to Sharpeville and back, on the R59 to Club Pinnacle in Ironside – and it was a spectacle for all to see.

Successes

Participants brought over 500 food parcels, which were handed out to various charity centres around Vaal.

VW South Africa supplied the rally with banners.

Carter Moloi, one of the key organisers, said the rally saw different clubs including the Lord Convoys Foundation, Club Pinnacle and Vaal Polo Club come together for a good cause.

“While it is a good opportunity to showcase our lovely cars, we use these rallies to also encourage good and responsible driving which, in turn, increases road safety.”

The rally wrapped up with a party that was attended by over 600 people.
