DO you know how to jump start a car with a flat battery?
Restarting a flat battery
- Move another car with a similar-sized engine (car 2) so its engine closely faces your car’s engine (car 1). Move all metal objects away from both batteries. Remove loose clothing and jewellery. Check that the batteries and jump cables aren’t damaged.
- Connect the red cable’s crocodile clip to the battery of car 2’s positive (+) terminal. Connect the red cable’s other end to the positive (+) terminal on car 1’s battery.
- Connect the black cable to the negative (-) terminal of car 2’s battery. Connect the black cable’s other end to an earthing point – the unpainted metal on the engine block or frame of car 1 (away from fuel or battery).
- Start car 2’s engine. Wait about five minutes and then start car 1. Remove the clips in reverse order to the above.
- Run or drive car 1 for at least 15 minutes.
