THE second-generation Audi A1, which was launched here earlier this year, is a sporty and luxurious compact hatch that’s all about fun.
SunWheels tested the thrilling 40TFSI model. And Audi deserves a pat on the back for the latest A1’s design which is a big improvement compared to its predecessor.
The previous model had a more conservative look, while the newcomer boasts a distinctively sportier design.
Our test car came with the S Line package boasting the overall outlook to make it appear even snazzier.
Inside, the A1 is high-tech and luxury-personified with top-notch fit and finish, while our test unit featured Audi’s optional virtual cockpit that’s visually highly appealing.
As a driver you can’t ask for a more comfortable cabin. Interior space is better than before, but the A1 remains a car aimed at single people or couples with one or two kids at the most.
Audi claims a boot volume of 335 litres, not too shabby if you need to load bigger items – just flip the rear seats flat and you’re good to go.
The A1 is a refined car to drive but also brings the boy-racer out in you. The 40TFSI model gives out the same performance as a VW Polo GTI, with which it shares some genes.
But since it has the Audi badge it feels more prestigious. It’s entertaining to drive and you’ll have loads of fun behind the wheel.
Although the A1 is Audi’s smallest car, it comes with loads of attitude.
