IT IS game on in the bakkie market with the launch of Mitsubishi’s new Triton.
With the most daring bakkie design ever seen, it is ready to go up against the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara and Volkswagen Amarok.
According to Mitsubishi, the new muscular Triton also features a host of improvements that make it more durable and reliable. While there is only one engine and trim version, buyers can choose between 4X2 or 4X4 drives as well as a manual or automatic gearbox.
Apart from the new appearance, it also has a new six-speed automatic gearbox and an improved 4X4 system that delivers better off-road performance and the latest in active safety and driver assistance systems.
The most striking new feature of the Triton is at the front – it has Mitsubishi’s new dynamic shield design.
The high hood line and macho-looking headlights located higher up give the new model a more intimidating look.
The interior is fresh as well as more luxurious and comfortable than the older model.
A high quality look is created by soft pad materials and stitching on the floor console, armrests and parking brake.
All models come with features such as leather seats, a touchscreen multimedia display with a Bluetooth connection, dual-zone automatic air conditioner, seven airbags and a rear view camera.
The Triton is powered by Mitsubishi’s powerful 2,4-litre turbodiesel engine.
Replacing the previous five-speed automatic is the new six-speed automatic gearbox that provides smoother gear shifting, more powerful acceleration and improved ride quality.
The new Triton is covered by a three-year/100 000km warranty and a five-year/90 000km service plan.
