Suzuki’s new Jimny is bigger and bolder than before.

Suzuki has just revealed the new Jimny and this SunWheels writer wants one badly!

Unfortunately, Suzuki has not revealed much about the newcomer but it is clear that it’s an awesome off-road vehicle.

One of the very few details Suzuki did confirm is that the Jimny will again feature a ladder-frame chassis, three-link rigid axle suspension and part-time four-wheel drive fitted with a low-range transfer gear.

The Jimny comes with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual gearbox.

The details on the engines remains vague.

However, rumours are that the Japanese market will probably get a tiny, 660cc inline three-cylinder engine while the rest of the world – probably including South Africa – get the option of a 1,5-litre inline four-cylinder petrol engine. Jimny currently comes with a 1,3-litre engine.

The new Jimny is another chunky 4X4 with impressive off-road ability but it’s city car dimensions mean it remains one of the best all-round 4X4s on the market.

However, while it looks slightly bigger than the current Jimny, it should be more comfortable too, with improved ride and handling.

The new Jimny gets an updated cabin with all the latest high-tech comfort, driving and safety features.

More good news is that Suzuki South Africa might introduce the newcomer by November this year. However, unlike most other Suzuki models the Jimny won’t be that affordable, because even the current Jimny’s price range starts at R263 900.

The new Jimny is part of Suzuki’s upgrade of its automobile range, which includes other newcomers such as the Baleno, Ignis and Swift.

Suzuki remains a hit locally and has scooped a number of local awards that proves its popularity among South African buyers.
