THE latest news is in: Datsun has revealed a rugged version of its popular budget Go+ called the Cross!
There is little information available about the Datsun Cross but at first glance, it is safe to say that it is the best looking Datsun ever! Datsun updated the spacious Go+ with extra body padding, skid plates and roof rails.
The Cross also comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, automatic projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, and prominent round front foglights, with a rear roof spoiler.
The Cross’s interior appears to be slightly more upmarket than the standard Datsun models and the most notable upgrade is a multimedia system with a touchscreen display.
Datsun is often criticised that its vehicles typically lack modern safety features, however, the Cross comes with a decent safety package that includes stability control, two airbags and ABS.
The inside of the Cross shares much with the Go+, although the 6,75-inch touchscreen display and infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, auxiliary and smartphone connections has been added too.
The Cross measures 3 995mm long, with a wheelbase of 2 450mm, which mirrors that of the Go+.
However, at 1 670mm wide and 1 560mm tall, it is slightly bigger while its ride height is 200mm off the ground.
Under the bonnet is Datsun’s tried and tested 1,2-litre, naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine, that sends its power to the front wheels.
It is also the first new Datsun model whose engine is fitted with an automatic gearbox.
There is no indication yet when the Datsun Cross will arrive in South Africa but let’s hope the wait isn’t too long!
