BEAUTIFUL, sporty, curvy, fast and furious – these are the words that describe cars we wish we owned but not what we’d get for selling them on.
True Price is a website that helps car shoppers and owners by putting a value on used cars which are decided by the average selling price at auctions.
Number one
Darryl Jacobson, managing director of True Price, said the Toyota Aygo has the best resale value.
“It can get 75% of its original list price at auctions. It is the resale leader. It is mostly due to Toyota’s incredible reputation for building reliable cars.”
Number two
Next is the Kia Picanto at 68% of original selling price.
“Kia is a brand that has grown in reputation and stature.
“The 2017 Initial Quality Study by JD Power, the vehicle reviewers, found that Kia is the most trusted brand in the United States for the second year in a row and South Africans have the same opinion.”
Number three
In third place – at 66% of original value – is the Hyundai i10.
“The i10 was named the best used city car in this year’s whatcar.com awards. This is no surprise. The i10 is a firm favourite among South Africans. We favour its spacious interior, efficient engines and many features.”
Number four
The Toyota Etios is in fourth place for selling at 65% of original list price.
“Once again, this is due to Toyota’s exceptional reputation for reliability.”
Number five
At number five sits the Suzuki Celerio – at 64% of original price.
“Suzuki cars are now known for value-for-money quality. This shows in the growing resale figures.”
Number six and seven
Two Volkswagen products – the Polo Vivo and Take Up! – occupy the sixth and seventh spots respectively. The Polo Vivo keeps 64% of its original price and the Take Up! retains 59%.
“I was surprised that these vehicles didn’t achieve better positions. VW is a favourite brand in South Africa and both of them are excellent cars.”
The others
The little Datsun Go achieved 58%. The Go was followed by the Honda Brio which was ninth at 55%.
“This is another surprise entry as Hondas have traditionally held their value far better than this.”
