HAVE you seen the Hyundai Kona around? You probably love its appearance but wondered if it performs as well as it looks.

Well, SunWheels took it for a spin and found it to be a reliable and compact family car.

While it is nothing like the Creta, it really is a good car for a small family or new drivers.

What you see

On the outside, Hyundai really showed everyone that it can make a beautiful car with the Kona’s very sharp and sleek look at the front. Its LED lights are everything that makes the front as great as it is, while the grille is quite bold as well. It looks absolutely fantastic at the back too.

What you get

The Kona is spacious inside with a simple but full interior that includes leather or quality cloth seats. It comes with an infotainment system which connects to your phone thanks to Apple Carplay or Android Auto.

It also has a park distance control with a reverse-view camera.

The Kona is a crossover car so loading space is a limited but fair 361 litres in size.

Under the bonnet

Buyers can choose between a turbocharged 1,0 or 2,0-litre, three-cylinder turbopetrol engine.

While we drove a manual gear version, we found the Kona’s handling was balanced and had a firm grip on the road.

Kona has a five-year/100 000km warranty, a two-year/50 000km drivetrain warranty and a five-year/90 000km service plan.
