EVERY carmaker tries to make the sedan sexy but few have pulled it off as well as Volkswagen did with the new Arteon.
The VW Arteon 2,0 TSI 4Motion R-Line not only catches the eye with its sleek design but it delivers performance far beyond that SunWheels expected.
The team even drove someone to pick up a car at a dealership in an Atlantic blue Arteon and the one of the salesmen who quickly gathered around the parked sedan said: “I know we are a great South African brand but I have to admit, VW caught us off -guard with this one. The Arteon is a beauty beyond measure.”
With this glowing recommendation of the Arteon’s looks, let’s get into how amazing it is to drive.
When sitting inside, we were immediately blown away by the 360° panoramic view from the seats and the cabin’s comfort. With the doors closed, the Arteon feels like we were relaxing on blow up mattresses in a cool swimming pool.
The touchscreen colour display included the rear-view reversing camera as well as other information.
The car is fitted with four cameras – at the front and the sides as well as the one at the rear – so you can see blind spots you never knew you had.
The infortainment display can be accessed with “gesture control”. William Kgatlane explained it this way: “When you are listening to music but want to skip a track or radio station, you take your eyes off the road while your fingers fight with the controls, which is an old but serious safety issue.
“With gesture control, you simply wave your hand one way or another and the system changes your choice – it seems the world is moving away from touchscreens to “wavescreens.”
Other noteworthy driving and convenience features include the cruise control. It senses the cars around its body and slows down as it approaches them until it matches their speed and accelerates to its original speed when the road is clear.
The seven-speed, dual-clutch, automatic-manual mixed DSG gearbox is a breeze to operate, as is all its other many features.
While we can go on and on about how great the Arteon is, it’s more important to stress that it has many of the features cars need to impress buyers.
