A 30-year-old male suspect was arrested by Gauteng traffic cops driving at high speed on the N1 towards Bloemfontein.

The man was driving a silver Mercedes-AMG GLE and he was charged with reckless and negligent driving.

He told the officers that he was rushing to Bloemfontein.

He is expected to appear at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate court.

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane said driver behaviour on our roads is not at a desirable level and therefore this calls for the intensification of road safety education.

“Majority of road fatalities are as a result of excessive speeding, reckless and negligent driving as well as driving under the influence of alcohol,” Malobane said.

Malobane called Law Enforcement Agencies to deal decisively with motorists who continue to disobey the rules of the road and continue to conduct themselves with impunity.
