KIA MOTORS SA is carrying out a safety recall on 2 175 Sorento and Carnival/Sedonas made in Korea between 2005 and 2009 to diagnose the ABS PCB relay block kit in the junction box, specifically on vehicles with ABS and electronic stability control.
There is a possibility that over time, oil or water may have entered the power supply of the ABS module. This may cause an electrical short on the ABS/electronic stability module, which could affect the vehicle’s braking performance. “Should the safety inspection find water or oil has entered the power supply, the ABS PCB relay block kit will be replaced,” said the company.
Aftersales director Suraiya Naidoo said most reports of this problem have been in the USA and Canada, with no instances of brake failure or engine fire in the vehicles having been recorded in Mzansi.
The recall is only applicable to 1 288 Sorento models manufactured in Korea between 14 December 2005 and 17 December 2009, as well as 887 Carnival/Sedona models made in Korea between 10 June 2005 and 14 December 2009.
