BIKING has become a big cultural movement ekasi.

Whether solo or in a club, riders are now a feature of the Mzansi landscape.

SunWheels spoke to devoted biker Peter Nkambule (47) from Daveyton. Peter makes a habit of riding wherever he goes.

“The nice thing is that I sometimes ride with my wife or one of my kids. It adds to the excitement.”

But this man is serious about safety!

“You need to be taught advanced riding techniques if you want to be safer riding your bike on these streets.”

Q: What bike do you ride?

A: I own and ride a 2009 Suzuki Boulevard with a 1,8-litre engine.

Q: When did you buy it?

A: I bought it in 2016.

Q: Are you licensed to ride?

A: Yes, I have my riding licence.

Q: When did you get your licence?

A: In 1995. I got it before I started riding.

Q: Is it your dream bike?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you belong to any riding club?

A: Yes, it’s called D-Town Rider and it’s based in Daveyton.

Q: How is riding with a club different?

A: When you ride alone, it’s just you but in a club, the inspiration you can draw from other riders is amazing.

You also share ideas on how to make life better.

Q: Do you get fines?

A: Not at all. I am a careful rider. I keep to the speed limit and I respect the law.

Q: How far have you travelled?

A: I have ridden to Botswana, Swaziland, Northern Cape, Polokwane in Limpopo and Bethlehem in Free State.

Q: What’s special about the black paint?

A: I was charmed by the colour. The moment I saw it, it spoke directly to my instincts – it was a new but unexplained feeling.

Q: Can anyone else ride your bike?

A: That’s a BIG NO.

Q: What do you think about other people on Mzansi roads?

A: The root of our problems is impatience. We need to be patient. We must stop feeling provoked by everyone else. The road is not about you. The road is about everyone on it, including others.

Q: What’s your advice to other riders?

A: Please, wear a helmet and protective gear, don’t forget your K53 and obey the road signs.
