OWNING the Isuzu D-Max 250 HO X-Rider Double Cab for one week gave us enough experience to tell you a few things about it.

Isuzu bakkies need no introduction as their reliability is well known in the market. But you might want to know what sets this bakkie apart.

But first, step back and view it from the front.

The combination of its dragon eyes headlamp design with the grille fog lights and the bumper makes the car look like a real stunner from the front, which makes up for its rather simple rear.

Jumping into the X-Rider is quite a mission as it boasts some good ground clearance – 225mm to be exact. You’d better use the well-placed side-step bar that many try to avoid.

While simple, I found the cabin to be quite welcoming. It has all the features a modern driver needs including touch screen, multicontrols on the steering wheel, USB/AUX portals and more assistance to make your drive easier.

But the real magic, which determines whether this is a good performer or not, is under the bonnet.

The 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine is found throughout the range with 100kW and 320Nm of power.

I was impressed by the low-fuel consumption with an amazing 7.7-litre average per 100km. It was nice to know that with just a turn of the knob, you’re able to tackle any kind of surface without worry.
