THE new Nissan Navara got eyes bulging in terms of its looks. The grille is bold and aggressive, the bumper is redesigned, the headlights are eye-catching and the hood’s new lines are striking. The new Nissan also brags with the Navara stamping on the tailgate. The new Navara looks seriously good!

But it’s not only the impressive looks that make the Navara such a good bakkie. It’s kitted out inside the cabin and the new suspension is what bakkie fans dream about. It provides comfort, a smooth ride and tough terrain is a pleasure to tackle with its high ground clearance.

It’s fitted with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The new Navara also has a navigation system.

The screen also displays a surround camera view of the Navara, thanks to four cameras, and this makes offroading a breeze.

Some other bells and whistles include leather upholstery, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers and keyless access.

In terms of safety, the new Navara has seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control with traction control, brake assist and hill-descent control. It’s also loaded with forward-collision warning, emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

It is no surprise that the new locally-built Navara topped the November sales figures for Nissan. The total sales figure is 2 328 units, which puts Navara in the top five carmakers, beating the likes of Ford and Isuzu.

Under the hood is still the reliable 2.5 litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine delivering 140kW and serious torque of 450Nm. It is mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The claimed fuel economy is 8.1L/100km, which is not bad, especially with the fuel price skyrocketing.

The new Navara was such a pleasure to drive and doesn’t only impressed with its looks, it really delivers on tar and gravel. It’s a nicely dressed-up workhorse.
