IN EVERY kasi, there’s that one madala who’s always neat and dresses smart, and who’s respected by everyone.
Not only are they respected, they also drive a Toyota Cressida – a legend in its own right.
Even the father of the nation Nelson Mandela was driven in one in the 90s.
Fast forward to this year and now there’s one on sale for R1 million, and Mzansi is in shock, thinking it’s a joke.
A Joburg dealer listed the Toyota legend on AutoTrader and the ad reads: “One of the most original 35-year-old cars with just a few minor touch-ups, original from tail lights to headlights, cleanest in South Africa and probably in the World.”
According to the dealer, this is a true iconic piece of Toyota’s history, and the interior has never been changed, with the original radio from 1986.
The Cressida only has 102 000km, a 2.4 GLE motor and automatic transmission.
The dealer said: “You will only know the true beauty of this vehicle once you walked into our showroom to admire this absolute stunner OPEN TO COLLECTORS OFFERS.”
On social media, a shocked Mzansi said they wouldn’t pay that much for a Toyota Cressida.
Zulu Tolo said: “I’d rather go buy a 1968 Pontiac convertible which appreciates in value as years goes by.”
Angazi said: “We still have a lot of Cressidas on the road. It’s not that much of a vintage car... there’s really nothing that special about it. People won’t even know that yours was R1,1 million.”
Godfrey Albertyn said: “No thanks. It’s still a 1986 car and it’s going to drive like a 1986 car and not an R1,1 million car!”
