WITH so many good sedans being produced, we are likely to see more on our roads.
And KIA Motors has decided to compete in that space by introducing a Pegas EX.
It will be interesting to see how the Pegas faces up to other already established small sedans such as the Ford Figo, Honda Amaze and Suzuki DZire.
SunWheels had a moment with this car earlier this year, and here is what we thought of the Pegas.
The Pegas, like many sedans that are designed to be spacious, is not as eye-catching as other hatches. But, it is also not a boring square.
I would rated it a good seven out of 10 in appearance.
With sedans being less expensive, designers don’t really go out to impress.
This car is designed to get you going as comfortably as can be, and is not sophisticated in the front and rear.
Its interior is welcoming, but quite simple – like its outside appeal.
However, the fun kicks in once you start engaging with its connectivity dynamics. This is starting with the seven-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android auto, that also shows the reverse camera.
You enjoy this type of car more when you have to pack your suitcases and go because space is not a problem.
With the 475L of space in the Pegas, you will never run out.
We packed quite a few comfortablythings before hitting the road on a long-distance drive just to get the feel.
To think that with such big boot space, you still get enough legroom in the Pegas, is one thing you will never take away from the sedan.
Its long-base chassis design just makes the room bigger for space.
We drove the five-speed manual gearbox married to 1,4L KIA engine that produces 69kW and 132Nm of torque.
And, therein engine performance lies all the magic. If you know KIA’s power to surprise, you will expect it to bring out the magic, and the Pegas did not disappoint. It was magic to drive around the busy streets of Joburg and also bliss on the open roads. I would recommend that you switch to cruise when you embark on a long drive – it is a wonder.
The car is not hard on fuel as we managed to keep our consumption at 5,8L for 100km travelled both around the city and on open roads.
Fuel consumption is quite important in the tough economic times we find ourselves in, and KIA did a great job in that regard.
Chilled, reserved drivers who don’t seek attention will find a great match in the Pegas.
Pricing:
Pegas 1.4 LX Manual R225 995
Pegas 1.4 EX Manual R236 995
Pegas 1.4 EX Auto R251 995
The pricing includes a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty as well as a four-year/60 000km service plan, which makes it stand out from the competition.
