THE bakkie battleground in Mzansi is getting more heated by the second as manufacturers gun for the top spot.

Isuzu has decided it’s not about to get sidelined. It has added three sporty X-Rider Limited Edition models to the Isuzu D-MAX range.

Badged the X-Rider Limited Edition, production of the new models will be limited to 210 individually numbered units, with a numbered plaque in the engine bay.

The X-Rider Limited Edition is Isuzu’s latest addition to the ever popular sixth generation D-MAX bakkie.

It was first introduced in 2016 as a special value model to the D-MAX range.

The X-Rider proved popular with bakkie buyers and became a permanent fixture of the Isuzu model line-up, both in South Africa and the rest of the African markets.

Now in its fifth year, the X-Rider has even more exclusive appeal through the X-Rider Limited Edition, which adds exclusive features such as blacked out 18-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, X-Rider Edition Limited Sports hoop, tailgate branding, branded carpet set, and a standard load box roller-shutter.

“The X-Rider was first introduced to the range as a special edition model. It was such a hit that we decided to make it a permanent part of the D-MAX model range.

“The X-Rider Limited Edition is a celebration of the success we’ve had with the sixth Generation D-MAX. We believe this is the best iteration of the D-MAX bakkie to date in terms of value, build quality, and appeal,” said senior vice president of Isuzu sales and marketing, Craig Uren.

Built at Isuzu’s Struandale plant in Gqeberha, the X-Rider Limited Edition benefits from eight years of continuous improvements made to the sixth generation D-MAX.

There are three models available in the X-Rider Limited Edition: a 2.5 HO X-Rider LTD 4x2 five-speed manual, a 2.5 HO X-Rider LTD 4x2 five-speed Auto, and a 3.0 X-Rider LTD 4x2 six-speed Auto.

All are based on existing X-Rider models.
