THIS MAN doesn’t like to speed – but his car does!
Every time he gets behind the wheel, he collects lots of speeding tickets.
Phasman Seloane, originally from Venda, now lives in Diepkloof, Soweto. He is a teacher.
He said in his 13 years of driving his car has made lots of money for traffic cops.
“I could be driving 120km/h in a 80km/h zone but it doesn’t feel like I’m speeding.
“Once I was unable to renew my car registration until I had settled all my fines.”
Q: What car is this?
A: It’s a 2004 VW Golf 1,6. I was born to a family that only drives VWs.
Q: When did you buy it?
A: I bought it as a demo car in 2005.
Q: Is this your first car?
A: No, my third.
Q: Why do you love this car?
A: This car is very fast but also good for long-distance trips. It’s comfortable and has never left me stranded on the side of the road. It saves a lot on fuel and is beautiful to look at.
Q: Is this your dream car?
A: I don’t have a dream car but I love German cars. They are strong and move on the road.
But if ever I have to choose another car in the future, it would be the latest Mercedes-Benz, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t love my car. I really do.
Q: Would you change anything?
A: The only thing I always change are the rims but apart from that, I think it is fine the way it is.
Q: Have you driven long distance yet?
A: Yes, I drive home to Venda all the time, but I have also driven to Durban, Zebediela and around Gauteng.
Q: Tell us about its colour?
A: It’s white which is good for maintenance.
Q: What are its special features?
A: Everything is standard but I might make some changes in the future. Who knows?
The car has a working cassette player and I love it that way. If I don’t want to listen to music I tune to a radio station. Why must I play music from CDs, memory sticks and Bluetooth? I don’t like those things: they are for young people.
Q: Can another person drive your car?
A: No way! I do not want to take the risk. This is why it is still in a good condition after 13 years, because it is only driven by me.
Not even my wife is not allowed to drive my wheels.
Q: How do you rate Mzansi drivers – are they good or bad, and why?
A: Different people drive differently.
