AFTER analysing millions of searches on AutoTrader, it has revealed which car colours are Mzansi’s most searched for.
Using a computer colour filter on issues from March 2017 to March 2018, the result shows that people here follow the same patterns as their international counterparts when it comes to favourite car colours.
Dominating 55% of searches shows that Mzansi’s favourite car colour is white.
Silver and black are the second and third most popular car colours in Mzansi. The fourth to ninth favourites in order are slate, grey, blue, red, orange and gold.
While white, silver and black are most popular, local motorists are anything but fixed and conservative when it comes to colour.
George Mienie, AutoTrader CEO, said that it is fascinating to see how yellow, gold and orange are gaining in popularity. “Interest in these three colours have grown by 40%.”
The 40% increase comes from comparing the two years of March 2016 to March 2017 and March 2017 to March 2018.
In the 2017/2018 period, the most searched for orange car was the Ford Ranger, the most searched for yellow car was the Volkswagen Golf and the Toyota Fortuner was the most desired gold vehicle.
Mienie said based on AutoTrader statistics, Mzansi motorists actually appear to becoming bolder in their choices.
“While yellow, gold and orange are gaining in the popularity, silver and grey are declining.”
However, he said it’s unlikely that the popularity of white cars will drop.
“White remains a safe choice. It’s long been known that a car in plain and simple white is easier to sell than a car painted in some sort of unusual shade of the rainbow.”
