HE found his car on bricks and his mag wheels missing, so Gift Tshikhudo (38) came up with a plan to stop thieves.
Gift, a bricklayer, welded steel bars to his VW Golf 2 to protect the wheels.
Gift from Tshikonelo Village, outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo, said his car was now safe.
He also has a Toyota Corolla, but only the Golf’s mag wheels were stolen.
“No one will ever steal my wheels again,” he said.
“I’m the only one who can remove the wheels. Only I drive the car.
“I love my car and I felt a deep pain when the mag wheels were stolen for the second time.
“The wheels had the original rims of the car, which had the VW badge on them.
“I’ve made peace with that because I know I’ll never find them again, but I don’t want to feel the heartache again.”
Gift said other motorists had begged him to design steel bars for their cars.
“People must know that I have a reason for the steel bars. It’s not just for decoration, but to protect my mag wheels.”
Gift bought his Golf two years ago and isn’t planning to sell it.
“I’m glad that at roadblocks traffic cops don’t issue tickets for my car because of these steel bars,” he said.
